The Terravesta Athena Miscanthus Variety

We propagate Miscanthus × giganteus of the Terravesta Athena variety — a commercial, high-yield miscanthus hybrid from the British company Terravesta, a leader in the European energy-crop market. This is second-generation planting material, bred specifically for industrial biomass production.

Why Athena Terravesta

Athena Terravesta has undergone years of breeding for stable yields, resilience and better biomass quality. Its key advantages over ordinary Miscanthus × giganteus:

• Higher yields — according to Terravesta, up to 50% more than wild giganteus.

• Earlier harvest — a commercial harvest as early as the second year, a year sooner than standard miscanthus.

• Higher calorific value and lower ash content — more valuable fuel for CHP plants, boiler houses and pellet producers.

• Drought tolerance — suitable for a wide range of soils and climates.

• High establishment rate — according to the producer, around 86% and above.

 

Sterile and Non-Invasive

Athena Terravesta produces no viable seed. The clump grows to a maximum of one square metre and spreads no further, so the crop does not "creep" across the field, as is mistakenly believed about wild species. It reproduces only through rhizomes, planted by hand.

Verified Origin

We grow the rhizomes on our own mother plantation, so we can document the origin of every batch. The Athena Terravesta variety is officially registered in Ukraine — we hold a registration certificate and a patent. In our fields, Athena Terravesta reaches a stable 20 tonnes per hectare from the fourth year and stays productive on the same plantation for over 20 years.
